I know what it feels like to do everything right and still feel off.
I'm Abby Handelman — Board Certified Functional Diagnostic Nutrition Practitioner, Holistic Health Coach, and mom of three. My path to this work wasn't planned. It was forged through years of navigating my children's health challenges, my own health struggles, and the deep frustration of searching for answers and a path to healing that conventional medicine and even holistic modalities couldn't provide.

In 2014, motherhood gave me the opportunity to leave my marketing job behind, spend more time with my son, and explore new interests. With a newfound passion for health, I began teaching mommy-and-me exercise classes and paying more attention to the things I put in and on my body. In 2017, following the birth of my daughter, Isla, I watched helplessly as her health began to deteriorate. She suffered from unexplained digestive issues and food sensitivities from just a few weeks old. After a year of jumping around from doctor to doctor with no clear answers, I put on my health detective hat and started doing my own research. I eventually enrolled in the Academy of Culinary Nutrition in 2018 which opened a door I couldn't close. Learning to cook in a way that supported Isla’s body, I became passionate about every aspect of how we nourish ourselves — not just food, but sleep, stress, movement, and the environment we live in. This led me to pursue a Holistic Health Coaching certification in 2021.
But in the background, as I sought out to heal my daughter’s chronic digestive issues, my own health was falling apart. Despite feeling like I was doing “all the right things,” in late 2020, I hit a wall. My energy, mood, and overall resilience declined significantly. My doctor told me all my labs looked “normal,” but I knew something was deeply off. I felt depleted, foggy, and inflamed. So once again, I put on my health detective hat as I searched for answers, this time for myself. I spent three years and lots of money working with functional doctors, a hormone specialist, and a naturopath, each using different functional labs to chase symptoms and then treat the paper. While my overall health did improve, I still dealt with lingering symptoms that I could not get to the bottom of – joint pain, brain fog, and skin issues.
In 2024, I enrolled in Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, a program whose core principles really resonated with me and the journey I had been on. As a student, I was able to run the program's five foundational lab panels on myself. This testing uncovered many imbalances that had gone unaddressed, including hidden stressors that were quietly driving inflammation and dysfunction throughout my body. With a targeted protocol emphasizing nervous system regulation, digestive support, and liver health, the lingering symptoms I'd been living with for years finally began to fade. Today I feel better than I’ve felt my whole adult life. Not because I found one answer — but because I finally understood the patterns, reduced the burden, and gave my body what it actually needed to heal.
That journey is why I do this work. I understand what it feels like to be dismissed, to feel stuck, and to keep searching. And I know that real answers are possible — when you look at the right things, in the right way. If you're ready to stop guessing and start understanding what your body is actually trying to tell you, I'd love to work with you.
